So far, I really like it. The jumping feels good, the graphics on the fog look wonderful, and the upgrades/inventory system seem well thought out. The description alone had me excited, but it looks like you have some good fundamental design behind it as well.
However, I feel like the beta could be a little better. It's a good beginning to a game, but not necessarily a good "beta" in my opinion. It'd be nice to have increased weapon drops or lowered weapon prices so we can get a better sense of the feel of the weapons. The pistol seems decent, but how do the other 75% of weapon categories feel?*
Also, I'm assuming the terrain alteration system doesn't work yet? It's referred to in tutorial, but never given controls, and never explicitly stated as not in yet. I understand that a huge system like that will take a will to program in, so I don't expect in the beta quite yet, just make sure it's directly stated that it isn't in.
I like the customization system. Simple, but nice. I like how the standard "enemy drop" isn't just an item meant to be sold, but that it's dual purpose. Again, you really seem to have good basic design here.
Overall, I'm excited. I liked it from just the description, but I'm glad to see you've put some thought into it. I'd just like to see a little more gameplay to get a good feeling for it.
*I've noticed that the shotgun tends to be a good litmus test for game design. If they have a good, visceral feeling shotgun, the rest of the game tends to have decent gameplay, and vice versa. Not a firm rule (Ratchet and Clank has great weapons but crappy shotguns most times), but it often proves true.
